Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2023

The Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2023 will be organized by a committee from the University of Groningen and will be held from January 30 to February 3, 2023.

SWI is part of the European Study Groups with Industry.

Welcome

The University of Groningen organises the next edition of the Study Group Mathematics with Industry (SWI). SWI 2023 will be held from January 30 to February 3, 2023.

What is SWI?

The Study Group Mathematics with Industry (SWI) is a combined industrial–academic week-long workshop sponsored by NWO. Roughly seventy mathematicians, ranging from PhD students to full professors, work in groups on problems submitted by companies. Companies present a selection of problems on Monday. The participants devote the entire week to studying these problems in smaller groups, and present their results on Friday.

Costs

Participation is free of charge, including the lunches and dinners mentioned in the program. If needed, accommodation (also free of charge for a limited number of participants) will be arranged for participants.

Fruitful collaborations

SWI is ideal for companies that are new to cooperation with academia. The event is often a first step towards a fruitful long-term collaboration between companies and academia.

Participate

If you wish to contribute a problem to SWI 2023, please contact the organization committee through swi2023@rug.nl. We will then contact you to discuss the details of the suggested problem and whether it is suitable for SWI. Discussions about suggested problems have turned out to be very fruitful for companies. After the discussion about a suggested problem, a formal decision about acceptance will made by the SWI organization committee. If your problem is accepted, a representative of your company is expected to be available at various moments during the week.

Costs

The costs of participating as a company are €1750.
