#SWI2026

Studygroup Mathematics with Industry 2026

The Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2026 will be organized by a committee from Leiden University and will be held from January 26 to January 30, 2026.

SWI is part of the European Study Groups with Industry.

SWI 2026

Leiden University will host the next edition of the Study Group Mathematics with Industry. SWI 2026 will be held from January 26 to January 30, 2026.

What is SWI?

The Study Group Mathematics with Industry (SWI) is a combined industrial–academic week-long workshop sponsored by NWO. Roughly seventy mathematicians work in groups on problems submitted by companies. Companies present a selection of problems on Monday. The participants devote the entire week to studying these problems in smaller groups and present their results on Friday.

Fruitful collaborations

SWI is ideal for companies that are new to cooperation with academia. The event is often a first step towards a fruitful long-term collaboration between companies and academia.

Participate

If you wish to contribute a problem to SWI 2026, please contact the organization committee through swi2026@leidenuniv.nl. We will then contact you to discuss the details of the suggested problem and whether it is suitable for SWI. Discussions about suggested problems have turned out to be very fruitful for companies. After the discussion about a suggested problem, a formal decision about acceptance will be made by the SWI organization committee. If your problem is accepted, a representative of your company is expected to be available at various times during the week.

Costs

Companies are requested to make a financial contribution of €1750 to the costs of the SWI.
